Garibaldi e Lyta si accordano per risolvere i rispettivi problemi. G'Kar viene messo alle strette dal governo narn.
- Sheridan ha conferma dei suoi sospetti sul ritorno all'alcolismo di Garibaldi e lo sospende dal suo incarico di responsabile dei servizi segreti dell'Alleanza Interstellare finché non risolverà i suoi problemi personali.
- G'Kar è sempre più oggetto di culto da parte degli altri Narn, che arrivano in massa su Babylon 5 in pellegrinaggio. Inoltre, il Kha'Ri vuole che G'Kar torni su Narn per guidare il suo popolo, tanto da minacciare di boicottare Babylon 5 se non costringerà l'ambasciatore a farlo, ma G'Kar non ha nessuna intenzione di sottostare al ricatto.
- Gli attacchi terroristici alle installazioni del Corpo Psi hanno continuato ad aumentare negli ultimi tempi, e ogni volta vicino al luogo dell'attentato è stata rinvenuta la scritta "Remember Byron" (Phoenix Rising). I servizi segreti della Alleanza Terrestre hanno scoperto che i fondi sui quali fanno affidamento i terroristi sono riconducibili a Lyta Alexander e hanno ordinato che venga arrestata.
- Delenn è incinta.
- Lise è tornata sulla stazione, chiamata da Lochley, per aiutare Garibaldi a sistemare la sua vita.
- Lyta e Garibaldi concludono un accordo: Lyta rimuoverà il blocco telepatico installato da Bester su Garibaldi (The Face of the Enemy) tra due anni, se nel frattempo Garibaldi, sfruttando anche le Industrie Edgars, collaborerà in segreto con Lyta per colpire il Corpo Psi e per gestire in segreto i fondi che Lyta stessa ha accumulato e destinato alla causa dei telepati un tempo comandati da Byron.
- Lyta è convinta che i Vorlon abbiano a suo tempo potenziato i suoi poteri telepatici, trasformandola in una specie di arma finale da usare in caso di insuccesso nell'uso delle altre armi a loro disposizione per combattere le Ombre.
- G'Kar ha una proposta che può risolvere sia il suo problema, sia quello di Lyta: visto che entrambi non possono rimanere sulla stazione, né tornare sul proprio pianeta natale senza creare problemi, il Narn ha deciso di partire per una lunga esplorazione dello spazio ed offre di portare la telepate con sé.
- Il figlio che Delenn aspetta è lo stesso a cui fa riferimento nella visione del futuro di War Without End - Part 2?
- L'immunità di Sheridan nei confronti dei poteri telepatici di Lyta è dovuta al suo contatto con Kosh Naranek o a quello con Lorien? O entrambi?
- Come ha fatto Garibaldi a sapere dell'accordo tra Lyta e G'Kar (Darkness Ascending)?
- Ammesso che Lyta abbia ragione sul fatto che i Vorlon l'hanno trasformata in una super arma, si tratta di un "esemplare" unico, o esistono altri super telepati?
- Dove andranno Lyta e G'Kar?
- Chi rimpiazzerà G'Kar nel Consiglio della Alleanza Interstellare?
- La rinuncia a guidare i Narn cui G'Kar fa riferimento è avvenuta in The Long Night.
- Il padre di Lochley era un alcolista, ed anche il capitano è stata una drogata e una alcolista (Day of the Dead), anche se è riuscita a cambiare vita in seguito. Questo la rende, nonostante i passati scontri, molto vicina a Garibaldi.
- I poteri telepatici di Lyta sono cresciuti in maniera esponenziale: ora è in grado di controllare numerose persone senza alcuno sforzo apparente, e riesce a disabilitare le telecamere di controllo con la sola forza del pensiero. Sheridan, a quanto pare, è immune dalle sue influenze, in quanto anch'egli è stato in passato "toccato" dai Vorlon.
- Lise ribadisce a Garibaldi la sua intenzione di sposarlo, nonostante tutti gli avvenimenti recenti, e di dirigere insieme a lui le industrie farmaceutiche lasciatele in eredità dall'ex marito deceduto (The Face of the Enemy).
- L'accordo con Garibaldi prevede che i fondi raccolti da Lyta siano divisi in due parti: una pubblica (di facciata) destinata ad aiutare economicamente i telepati in difficoltà, ed un'altra (molto più consistente) su un conto segreto destinata a finanziare gli attacchi alle installazioni del Corpo Psi (che tra l'altro getteranno le basi per la guerra tra telepati e "normali"). In due anni, sempre che Garibaldi sia riuscito a racimolare abbastanza denaro e forze per aiutare Lyta, questa libererà l'ex-capo della Sicurezza dal blocco mentale, consentendogli di chiudere i conti con Bester, mentre lei si dedicherà al Corpo Psi.
- Bester ha installato il blocco su Garibaldi, ma non si è preoccupato di assicurarsi che Garibaldi non potesse tentare di rimuoverlo o farlo rimuovere. Un eccesso di presunzione che potrebbe pagare caro.
- Sheridan afferma di avere sospettato che Garibaldi avesse ricominciato a bere. Questo rende ancora più difficile comprendere il perché abbia continuato ad assegnare a Garibaldi stesso importanti incarichi come il monitoraggio e coordinamento delle White Star che pattugliavano i confini centauri (And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder) senza pensare ad una seconda persona che potesse sostituirlo quando non fosse stato in grado di compiere il proprio lavoro.
- Sembra che Sheridan sia del tutto immune ai poteri di Lyta, ma non è chiaro se lo sia in generale a tutti i telepati. Se così fosse, si spiegherebbe il perché, quando era prigioniero degli uomini di Clark (Intersections in Real Time), non sono stati utilizzati telepati per costringerlo a firmare la confessione che l'allora presidente dell'Alleanza Terrestre voleva da lui.
- Anche G'Kar è stato, seppur molto più limitatamente, "toccato" da un Vorlon (Dust to Dust).
- Franklin sostiene che la gravidanza di Delenn debba essere monitorata con cura, visto che si tratta del primo caso che vede protagonista un ibrido Minbari-Umano, anche se paiono esserci buone probabilità che tutto termini senza eccessivi problemi.
- Anche Sheridan è preoccupato per la gravidanza. Sappiamo che, sempre se la visione si realizzerà, i due avranno un figlio, David (War Without End - Part 2), e probabilmente Sheridan se ne ricorda, ma non è detto che questa gravidanza sia quella che porterà alla nascita, per cui il suo nervosismo è comprensibile.
- La situazione di Garibaldi ricorda, come sostenuto anche da Sheridan, quella di Franklin e del suo eccesso nell'uso di stimolanti. Infatti, entrambi hanno inizialmente negato che gli abusi avessero effetti sulle rispettive capacità lavorative. Entrambi avevano la presunzione di riuscire a sistemare ogni problema, per poi rendersi conto di non riuscire a farlo, finendo per assumere sempre più stimolanti/alcool. Entrambi, per risolvere il loro problema, hanno scelto di contare solo su loro stessi. Entrambi, infine, sono stati aiutati da una donna: Cailyn per Franklin, Lise per Garibaldi.
- Sempre riguardo al parallelo tra Franklin e Garibaldi, il primo risolse le sue difficoltà "incontrando sé stesso", e Sheridan dice al secondo che il suo problema è "between you and you".
- In Movements of Fire and Shadow, il reggente dice a Londo, riferendosi ai Drakh: "They said many, many things. Things I didn't want to hear. Things I didn't understand. And things I didn't want to understand". Parole simili a quelle dette da Lise in questo episodio riguardo a quanto accade nelle Industrie Edgars.
- Finanziando gli attacchi terroristici al Corpo Psi, Lyta ha a tutti gli effetti tradito le idee di Byron e di conseguenza la sua promessa di continuare il lavoro del suo ex amante.
- La rivelazione che Lyta fa a Garibaldi circa la sua vera natura lo terrorizza, com'è giusto che sia. Molto probabilmente questo lo fa ripensare al sogno di Darkness Ascending, durante il quale (o fuori del quale?) vide Lyta sul suo letto, intenta a manipolarlo.
- È interessante considerare un parallelo tra la posizione di Londo e quella di Lyta e G'Kar. Tutti e tre hanno raggiunto uno stato in cui hanno tutto il potere che avrebbero potuto volere (imperatore, super-telepate, icona religiosa a cui è stato offerto il comando del suo popolo), ma nessuna libertà di scelta. Il modo con cui J. Michael Straczynski è riuscito a prendere i sogni dei suoi personaggi e trasformarli in incubi è meravigliosamente ironico.
- Delenn intuisce qualcosa del cambiamento che Londo ha subito, e ne è preoccupata. Sheridan invece lo ricorda solo come il festaiolo che ha dimostrato di essere in passato, ma la persona che vediamo seduta al buio sul trono è di natura ben diversa.
- Quando Garibaldi incontra Lyta nella cella in cui la telepate è rinchiusa, le chiede: "Who... what are you?". Esattamente le stesse parole esclamate da Londo, alla vista del Drakh, in The Fall of Centauri Prime.
- A quanto pare, l'accordo tra Lyta e G'Kar è una informazione abbastanza conosciuta.
- La menzione del fatto che Lyta potrebbe finire nella formaldeide potrebbe essere un riferimento a quella che, secondo Bester, è stata la fine di Talia Winters (Dust to Dust).
- Come Garibaldi fa giustamente notare, con la partenza di G'Kar e Lyta, ben pochi tra i personaggi principali sembrano destinati a rimanere su Babylon 5: Londo è già andato via, Franklin se ne andrà alla fine dell'anno, Sheridan e Delenn appena sarà pronto il nuovo quartier generale dell'Alleanza Interstellare su Minbar, ed infine Garibaldi e Lise a breve. Gli unici che non dovrebbero andarsene (salvo sorprese) sono Lochley, Zack Allan e Vir Cotto.
- Il titolo dell'episodio potrebbe essere un riferimento al mito greco di Ixion, o ad un passo del Re Lear di Shakespeare (atto 4, scena 7), oppure a The Return of the King (Il Ritorno del Re) di Tolkien.
- Circa il titolo dell'episodio (e della stagione), J. Michael Straczynski ha detto: "The wheel of fire visually has spokes proceeding out from a central flame; the center burns outward. And several of the fires smoldering lately have done that; with Byron it was a literal flame that has now gone out along the spokes and had substantial repercussions, with more to come years down the road. [...] It's also a Shakespeare quote, "I am bound upon a wheel of fire, that mine own tears do scald like molten lead." Which tends to describe Londo's situation as well."
- Bruce Boxleitner, poco tempo prima di girare questo episodio, era divenuto (non per la prima volta) padre nella vita reale in circostanze abbastanza pericolose, poiché suo figlio Michael Garrett era nato prematuro di tre mesi e ce l'aveva fatta per il rotto della cuffia. Possiamo quindi immaginare che sia riuscito a comunicare bene i timori di Sheridan.
- In un'ulteriore caso di liete coincidenze tra questa serie e la vita reale, Mira Furlan ha scoperto più o meno durante le riprese di questo episodio di essere incinta. Suo figlio si chiama Marko.
- Ad un certo punto, Delenn muove le labbra come a dire "What happened?". J. Michael Straczynski, in uno dei non rari casi in cui era pervaso di uno strano senso dello humour, ha detto: "No, what she actually said was "War't arp-ent" which is Minbari religious caste language for, "If you ever try and fertilise me again, I'll rip your nuts off"".
- Partecipando ad una conversazione circa il fatto che Sheridan avrebbe dovuto ricordarsi del suo stesso futuro, visto in War Without End - Part 2, J. Michael Straczynski ha detto: "Y'know, this discussion kinda baffles me to some extent. [...] For starters, Sheridan was only in the future briefly; he was being beaten and was confused and not sure how much of it was real; he doesn't know if his going to Z'ha'dum changed any of that future... the events he did see were 20 years down the road, and there's no way for him to know (as we know, the audience) what connects to what... he sees only destruction, and that could have happened two weeks before (there's no rule that says a capital city can be bombed only once)... no way to know if the keeper may have been implanted days or months before. To try and impose a quick understanding of events 20 years down the road on things happening right now, without knowing the context, would be madness... you don't need a keeper to start a war, or half our own leaders here would have had keepers on them. [...] As for Delenn... yes, he heard her talk about their son, but at the same time, again, that's 20 years down the road. Their son could be any age, so the news that she's pregnant will still be a shock whenever it comes; you may know that you're planning to have kids, that the doctor says its possible, but when you actually hear the news, it's a stunner every time. His question is a natural one... he doesn't know if the kid in the future had to be taken out of utero to be sustained until it came full term, doesn't know if extreme measures had to be taken... his question is a sensible and justifiable one. [...] People are assuming that what they know as the audience, Sheridan knows, which he does not... and assuming that he knows everything that is to come, or what it means, or how it happens, or in what context, which he does not. [...] His memory is not faulty."

Lochley: Well, maybe Emperor Mollari will have more of a chance at happiness than Ambassador Mollari ever did.
G'Kar: I doubt it.

Sheridan: I'm not angry with you. Not now. I was. But Delenn has a... way of looking at things... no. No, I'm not angry with you. But I am very disappointed, Michael.
Garibaldi: I'd rather have you yelling at me or angry. Anything but disappointed. I know I failed...
Sheridan: I didn't say I was disappointed in you because of your failure. I'm disappointed because I didn't pick up on this earlier. Disappointed because you felt that you couldn't come to me about this on your own. When Stephen had his problem a couple of years ago, I didn't step forward and offer my help when I should have. And he damn near died trying to deal with his problem on his own. I have made a lot of mistakes, same as everybody else. But I try not to make the same mistake twice.

Sheridan (a Garibaldi): You have to understand that your problem is not between you and me, you and your job, or any of that. Your problem is between you... and you.

Franklin (a G'Kar): Well, apparently your people believe that your presence on Centauri Prime allowed them to attack without retribution. You came through it alive, which they're considering another not-so-minor miracle, and you don't want the power. People love giving power to those they believe don't want it.

G'Kar: I've never understood that. Why does the universe give us puzzles with no answers?
Franklin: Pay back, maybe?

Lochley (a Garibaldi): See, the drinking gives a control freak like you permission to let it go, to be angry, to lash out, to lose it.

Lochley (a Garibaldi): He stopped painting the day he enlisted. But he wanted to paint. He was good at it. And it was killing him not to... one drink at a time. He didn't see any way out of his life, any way to change it. But the door's always there, Michael. You just have to open it.

Lyta: I'm tired of being pushed around, Captain. I do not choose to be arrested. I've done a lot for this place... and just once I think a little gratitude would be in order, don't you?
Lochley: Lyta, don't force us to...
Lyta: To what?

Lyta: You cannot harm me. You cannot stop someone who's been touched by Vorlons.
Sheridan: You're not the only one that's been touched by the Vorlons.

Garibaldi: What... part of my message did you get? We've been having trouble with the com system, see, and...
Lise: The most important part. The part that said: "I need you."
Garibaldi: And you came here just on that?
Lise: What more is there?
Tempo: n.d.
Sheridan: What could make her turn like this?
Franklin: Well, let's see. She was... adjusted by the Vorlons, dumped by the Vorlons, used as a weapon. Quit the Corps. Lost the only man she ever loved and dedicated herself to finishing his work. Pick one or all of the above. Let's face it, she's pissed.
Sheridan: Massively.

Sheridan (su Lyta): No, there's something more going on here. Something that pushed her over the edge. I mean, first Londo, then Garibaldi, and now this. I tell you, the next person who acts irrationally, I swear I'm gonna shoot myself in the head.

Lise: Well, then you may as well give up, because nobody gets it 100% right.
Garibaldi: I just want to give you a normal life.
Lise: There is no "normal life", Michael. There's just life.

Franklin: Look, you have to understand she's a Minbari-Human hybrid. Things aren't gonna work the same.
Sheridan: Wait. What are you talking about? What is wrong with her?
Franklin: She's pregnant.
Tempo: n.d.
G'Kar: This is how I've come to be seen by my people. Despite my best efforts, I've become an icon. I didn't understand why or how until I saw this. I realized it's simpler to make a statue to someone who you believe embodies all your better qualities than it is to actually improve yourself.
Garibaldi: And this saves you from having to think.
G'Kar: Exactly. For the last year, I've tried to point my people toward the simple truth that we are one, regardless of race. Somehow, that message has gotten twisted so that I have become their idea of the truth personified. Once you turn into this, you can no longer be who you are. You can only be what they want you to be, what they... expect you to be.

Lyta (a Garibaldi): I'll check back with you after two years. If you've done as I ask, if you've created a force I can use against the Corps... I'll take out that neural block. Then, you can deal with Bester. I'll deal with the Corps. We both get what we want.

Garibaldi: Something's happened to your abilities. You're not a P5 anymore. Hell, you're not even a P12. You're the strongest telepath that I've ever seen. What did the Vorlons do to you, Lyta? Who... what are you?
Lyta: I've only recently begun to understand it myself. You know the Vorlons used telepaths as weapons during the Shadow War, but what no one stopped to consider was that in a war, you have a certain number of small weapons, a certain number of medium-sized weapons... and one or two big ones... the kind of weapons you drop when you're... out of the small weapons and the medium weapons and you've got nothing left to use.
Garibaldi: Someone like that would be the telepathic equivalent of a thermonuclear device, a... a doomsday weapon.
Lyta: Pleased to meet you, Mr. Garibaldi.

Delenn: Stop staring at me.
Sheridan: I'm sorry. I couldn't help it.
Delenn: One would think you have never seen a pregnant half-Human half-Minbari before.
