Sheridan lancia un attacco preventivo per impedire alle Ombre di portare a termine il loro piano. Franklin rischia la propria vita per aiutare un Lurker in difficoltà.
- Sheridan prepara un attacco preventivo contro le Ombre per evitare che le stesse sterminino tutti i rifugiati che sono riuscite ad ammassare nel Settore 83. L'Armata della Luce, composta da White Star, incrociatori minbari, Starfury e navi dalla Lega dei Mondi non Allineati, arriva nel Settore 83 su avvertimento di Ivanova e Marcus, preventivamente mandati in avanscoperta, e riesce a costringere alla ritirata la flotta delle Ombre, non senza pesanti perdite.
- Anna Sheridan, la moglie del capitano che si credeva uccisa dalle Ombre su Z'ha'dum, arriva sulla stazione.
- Chi è "the man in between"?
- Cosa ci fa Anna Sheridan su Babylon 5? È anch'essa controllata, come lo è Morden, dalle Ombre?
- L'arrivo della moglie farà mutare il rapporto tra Sheridan e Delenn?

- Per i Minbari è tradizione, una volta che una coppia ha raggiunto un certo livello di intesa, che i due partner passino la notte insieme: il maschio dorme e la femmina lo osserva per riuscire a catturare il vero volto del compagno, cosa che secondo i Minbari è possibile fare solo mentre l'altro sta dormendo. Il rituale continua solo se alla femmina piace ciò che vede nel corso della nottata, in caso contrario la coppia si scioglie.
- Il Dottor Franklin, ferito in maniera seria dopo essere intervenuto in una colluttazione nel Downbelow, incontra finalmente sé stesso. Il walkabout è terminato, e il dottore ora ha ottenuto le risposte che stava cercando: piuttosto che cercare di fare di più, deve sforzarsi di fare di meglio.
- La "visione" di Delenn in War Without End - Part 2 si è avverata: la figura che entra negli alloggi di Sheridan spaventando l'ambasciatrice è la moglie del capitano.
- Il sogno di Sheridan in All Alone in the Night ha una spiegazione: Ivanova con il corvo sulla spalla che domanda "Do you know who I am?" ricorda al capitano che poco dopo aver avuto il sogno per la prima volta si è venuto a sapere (Divided Loyalties) che Ivanova è una telepate latente e che lei stessa a volte non sa chi realmente essa sia; il capitano vestito con l'uniforme del Corpo Psi simbolizza l'alleanza con Bester (Ship of Tears); Sheridan stesso è "la mano", come afferma Ivanova nel sogno, ossia il portavoce di una delle due forze, uguali ma contrarie, che si stanno combattendo; c'è invece ancora incertezza su chi sia "the man in between", ossia il rappresentante dell'altra potenza in gioco.
- Verso la fine dell'episodio, durante la conversazione tra Sheridan e Franklin, il dottore afferma: "Moments are all we have". Si tratta di una frase che ricorda quanto detto da Delenn in War Without End - Part 2: "Savor the moments, for they will never come again", e che insieme a quanto affermato dall'imperatore centauri in The Coming of Shadows ("The past tempts us, the present confuses us, and the future frightens us. And our lives slip away, moment by moment, lost in that vast, terrible in-between") rappresenta in maniera ottima la filosofia del carpe diem: vivere ogni istante della propria vita come se fosse l'ultimo, cercando di gustarsi ogni esperienza.
- La scena di Franklin ferito che si fa largo tra la folla del Downbelow ricorda due scene in Chrysalis: Petrov morente che si avvicina a Garibaldi e lo stesso capo della Sicurezza ferito che compare su un ascensore nel mezzo della folla che festeggia il nuovo anno.
- In Revelations, Anna Sheridan è stata interpretata da Beth Toussaint, mentre in questo episodio la parte è stata assegnata a Melissa Gilbert per aumentare lo "spessore" del cast. Nella vita reale, quando la puntata è stata girata, Bruce Boxleitner e Melissa Gilbert erano davvero marito e moglie e le foto del matrimonio tra Anna e John Sheridan che si vedono negli alloggi del capitano sono quelle fatte in occasione del matrimonio dei due attori, opportunamente modificate. Boxleitner e Gilbert hanno poi divorziato nel corso del 2012.
- Nuovamente si vede che Sheridan non ha particolare paura di far rischiare la morte a qualcuno, perfino qualcuno a cui tiene come Susan Ivanova. Questa è forse una delle grandi differenze tra Sheridan e Delenn: quest'ultima deve ancora imparare a gestire questo sconveniente aspetto del comando, mentre Sheridan ha avuto parecchie occasioni per accettarlo (quello che afferma in GROPOS al proposito è un buon esempio).
- La coppia che sta visitando il Downbelow rappresenta molto bene le opinioni che circolano sulla Terra nel periodo in cui è ambientato questo episodio. La donna crede fortemente in Clark, mentre il padre (e sua madre, a quanto pare) non sono particolarmente sicuri, ma la loro opinione viene schiacciata o calpestata da quella degli ammiratori del presidente. È interessante notare che la donna critica a suo marito il fatto che lui "legge troppo". La conoscenza è la chiave per scardinare la propaganda e l'inganno, ma prendendo a prestito (e modificando un po') un noto proverbio, non c'è peggior cieco di chi rifiuta di vedere. L'evento ricorda una famosa citazione da A Christmas Carol: "This boy is Ignorance, this girl is Want. Beware them both, but most of all beware this boy, for on his head I see that which is doom unless the writing be erased".
- La distanza temporale tra Grey 17 Is Missing e questo episodio è di cinque settimane, quindi Marcus ha avuto tutto il tempo necessario per la sua convalescenza.
- La benedizione egiziana con la quale Sheridan augura buona fortuna a Ivanova e Marcus è stata citata per la prima volta in A Distant Star.
- La frase "Commander Ivanova on channel four" è un riferimento voluto all'emittente britannica che, all'epoca in cui Babylon 5 veniva prodotta, sosteneva fortemente la serie, appunto Channel 4.
- Questo episodio è stato trasmesso per la prima volta nel Regno Unito (il 15/09/1996) e non negli Stati Uniti, come di norma accade. Nella versione andata in onda nel Regno Unito sono stati tagliati sette secondi, nella scena in cui Franklin viene ferito.
- Lo scopo del walkabout di Franklin si realizza e il dottore riesce a incontrare sé stesso. La sua altra coscienza si rivela però molto diversa dal Dottor Franklin che conosciamo. Richard Biggs ha pensato che il Franklin "nascosto" fosse più sarcastico, caustico, forte e in generale più rilassato di lui.
- Gli eventi accaduti a Franklin rispecchiano molto da vicino l'esperienza di J. Michael Straczynski stesso, che parecchi anni prima si era dedicato a qualcosa di molto simile al walkabout del dottore. Straczynski all'epoca viveva a San Diego e durante una sua prolungata passeggiata a scopo meditativo, era stato assalito da un gruppo di teppisti, e lasciato in punto di morte, ma la sua forza d'animo lo ha tenuto in vita. J. Michael Straczynski si è trovato a ripetere a sé stesso che aveva delle storie da raccontare e che non sarebbe morto prima di averlo fatto, e così è successo (fortunatamente!).

Delenn: Not like that. You see, when Minbari become close, as we have become close, it is tradition that they spend three nights together. The male sleeps and the female watches.
Sheridan: Watches what?
Delenn: During the day, we all put on the face we think will do us the most good. But at certain point in your sleep, as you relax, your true face is revealed. If the female approves of his true face, she will stay two more nights and continue to observe.
Sheridan: What if she doesn't like what she sees?
Delenn: Then they go their seperate ways. If he insists, she'll stay one more night. She can leave when he falls asleep, file a complaint with the elders, even cut off his... his access to her family.
Sheridan: Oh. What if she does like what she sees?
Delenn: Later. History awaits.

Franklin 2: You said you had to keep walking until you met yourself. Well, here I am. So, if we are gonna talk, let's talk, because I don't think you have a lot of time.

Marcus: No. If I signal the fleet, they just might pick it up. If they do, and we can't get away...

Franklin 2 (a Franklin 1): Do you know what your problem is? All your life you've run away from everything. Home didn't work out, wouldn't talk to your father, so you just... walked away. You didn't have the patience for a long internship back home, so you just ran out and started hitch-hiking on starships. You didn't want to turn over your precious notes on Minbari biology during the war, so you just burned them instead and walked away again. You used work to run away from your personal life and stims to run away from your work. And right now, you are running away from everything. Don't you die on me yet. I'm not through with you. You finally had it all, didn't you? You had a good job, people who cared about you and you messed it up! "I have to leave before they fire me. I have to go find myself." What a bunch of mealy-mouthed self-indulgent Foundationist crap! Take responsibility for your actions, for crying out loud. You go in there and you fight for what matters to you, don't just walk away because it's easier. What did you say? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot. You are too busy dying, aren't you? I guess that's a bit more important to you right now. Well, fine, you do what you want, because you and I, we parted ways a long time ago. So just go ahead and die, because I really don't care anymore.

Franklin 2: Blood pressure is dropping fast. You should be getting real cold right about now. That's shock and trauma, and the rest will follow soon. You know, so we can get this over with. I mean, you weren't that happy with your life at the first place, were you? I mean, this one has hardly been used.
Franklin 1: I... I want...
Franklin 2: You want what? I mean, what do you want? What could you possibly want?
Franklin 1: I wanna... I wanna... do it all again.
Franklin 2: Why, you would just mess it up again. Where do you think you're going?
Franklin 1: I wanna do it again. I wanna do it again.
Franklin 2: Is that right? Then get up off the damn floor. I don't care how much it hurts. Don't you go passing out on me, because that's just another kind of running away. Now, you take the reponsibility. Show me that you want it. Get up off the damn floor. That's it. Come on. Come on. Get up on your own two feet and stand up, you stand up.
Franklin 1: I wanna do it all over again.

Garibaldi: I say there's a big question. Now that we have shown that we can hurt them, how long until they come knocking on our front door?
Sheridan: That's what worries me.

Franklin: I don't know. I guess I found what I... what I needed, not what I wanted.
Garibaldi: Which was?
Franklin: Short sharp kick to the head.
Garibaldi: Oh hell, I could've done that for you, all you had to do was ask.
Franklin: Well, you would've enjoyed it too much.
Garibaldi: So, you didn't... meet yourself?
Franklin: Yeah, I did. Found out I didn't like myself either.
Garibaldi: Well, as revelation go, I guess I have heard worse.

Sheridan (ad Ivanova e Delenn): Signs, portents, dreams, next thing we'll be reading tea leafs and chicken entrails. All we do know is that we are vulnerable now. I want squadrons on fly-by at all times. We should expect something to be coming our way sooner or later. The way our luck works, it will probably be sooner.

Sheridan: You had to find your own way.
Franklin: I ran away. I realized that I always defined myself in terms what I wasn't. I wasn't a good soldier like my father, I wasn't... the job... I wasn't a good prospect for marriage or kids. Always what I wasn't, never what I was. But when you do that, you miss the moments. And the moments are all we've got. When I thought I was going to die, even after everything that's happened, I realized I didn't want to let go. I was willing to do it all over again and this time I could appreciate the moments. I can't go back, but I can appreciate what I have right now, and I can define myself by what I am, instead of what I'm not.
Sheridan: And what are you?
Franklin: Alive. Everything else is negotiable.
